Speaking of deaconesses, here I am on Ancient Faith—and more

Just a note to let you know about my podcast interview on Ancient Faith posted earlier this week and to remind you of the other helpful posts on deaconesses and on the much bigger issue of male and female, so timely today.

On male and female, there is the paper I presented in January at the meeting of the International Orthodox Theological Association (IOTA) in Volos, Greece, entitled “Male and Female as Archic and Eucharistic Modes of Relation.” This is a must-read for anyone trying to make sense of our creation “in the image of God” and as “male and female,” per Gen. 1:27.

On deaconesses, there’s my review in Rule of Faith of Carrie Frost’s new book Church of Our Granddaughters, which is a feminist manifesto telling us there is no end to their demands.

There is also the slide presentation on deacons and deaconesses I posted last August, which puts the issue of deaconesses into its proper patristic context, which is what advocates of deaconesses do not do because they don’t like what the Fathers say about male and female.

And, of course, there are my two most recent books, which delve even deeper into the mystery of sex and gender: Origen’s Revenge and The Disappearing Deaconess. Great summer reading. Also great winter reading. Also great Christmas gifts.
