The book was written decades ago but is now more relevant than ever. It tells of a time when Christians were forbidden to worship publicly but risked their lives and livelihoods to do so. This second edition improves a few dialogues, corrects a few typos, and makes more use of familiar words like bishop, deacon, and Church instead of modern English calques like overseer, server, and Assembly. Some names have also been shortened: The young prince Hannibalianus is now simply Hannibal, and Arelate is now Arelas (another ancient name of Arles, France).
